Bible dictionaries provide information about people, places, events, and concepts and are organized alphabetically by term.
Bible commentaries provide interpretation and analysis of lines or passages and are organized by Bible book, chapter, and verse.
Dictionaries/commentaries can be one volume, offering shorter articles, or multiple volumes, with articles that go into greater depth.
Note: Print and online Bible dictionaries, commentaries, and encyclopedias published before 1965 are considered out of date. Often, professor require that you use Bible reference resources published after 1965 (post-Vatican II).
