General Considerations

  • Print and online Bible dictionaries, commentaries and encyclopedias published before 1965 are out of date. Please only use Bible Reference resources published after 1965 (post Vatican II).
  • Emmanuel College library print reference books are for in-library use only and cannot be checked out.
     

Research Paper Requirements

  • One article from a one-volume biblical commentary,
  • Three terms from a biblical dictionary, and
  • Two articles from scholarly journals or chapters from different books (one of these may be replaced by a chapter from a commentary on the biblical book from which you chose your pericope).

  • A Bible commentary will go through your passage line-by-line and provide scholarly commentary (interpretation and analysis). Use a one-volume commentary for the historical context and literary context section of your paper.
